The Lakers’ commanding 134-107 victory over the Grizzlies enhances their season record to 2-0

Tuesday night marked the second game of the In-Season Tournament for the Los Angeles Lakers, who hosted the Memphis Grizzlies for a rematch of the playoffs from the previous year.

After returning to the lineup following a one-game absence due to a calf contusion, LeBron James assisted the Lakers in defeating the Grizzlies 134-107 to progress to 6-5 overall on the year and 2-0 in the In-Season Tournament.

Anthony Davis continued his strong performance against the Grizzlies in the postseason by recording two impressive blocks on Jaren Jackson Jr. and contributing to four early points. However, the Grizzlies were on fire early on, connecting on three occasions before James scored two of his own to give Los Angeles a 15-9 lead heading into the first intermission.

After last year’s semifinals, it appears that there is no animosity between these two teams, as Davis engaged in an altercation with Santi Aldama after receiving the push and subsequently repaying the favor. After receiving double technicals, Davis was confronted by Desmond Bane, which sparked a brief altercation. A total of five technicals were issued; however, no one was ejected and the game continued.

Austin Reaves and Rui Hachimura, both coming off the bench, got off to quick starts by draining three-pointers. However, Hachimura immediately reversed the momentum by committing a flagrant penalty while attempting to reach Aldama for a three-point attempt.

However, Hachimura answered with two more baskets, and Davis completed a putback to give the Lakers a 37-26 lead at the half.

David Roddy entered the game early in the second quarter and immediately made an impact for the Grizzlies with two triples.

Aside from that, however, the game remained in favor of the Lakers, as Cam Reddish extended the lead to 58-40 with two corner three-pointers.

In the first half, the Grizzlies converted 12-of-27 3-point attempts, but it was in vain as the Lakers completed 11-of-20. Including D’Angelo Russell, who contributed two assists, the Lakers increased their halftime lead to 74-51.

Beginning the third quarter, the Lakers continued from where they had left off, as both Reddish and Taurean Prince made three-pointers to extend the lead even further.

A brief Memphis run reduced the deficit to 21 prior to Darvin Ham calling a timeout; James then scored three points to restore order.

Russell then went off the rail with 12 consecutive points for the Lakers, despite a third-quarter surge by the Grizzlies that reduced their deficit to 107-86.

Reaves made another three-pointer to maintain the Lakers’ lead early in the fourth quarter. It was undesirable that they would have to substitute Davis and James for another game on Wednesday; however, that was not an issue as Hachimura and Reaves consistently scored to seal the game.
