Tuesday evening, a passionate altercation occurred off the ice.
A heated altercation ensued between the Timberwolves and the Warriors in San Francisco during the latter’s 104-101 NBA In-Season Tournament victory. Draymond Green, along with two others, was dismissed from the game after he attempted to place Rudy Gobert in a headlock.
The altercation commenced 1 minute and 43 seconds into the game, when Anthony Edwards of the Timberwolves failed to make a three-point attempt and the Warriors recovered the ball to advance it in the opposite direction.
At halfcourt, Klay Thompson and Jaden McDaniels engaged in an altercation after Thompson attempted to pass McDaniels, who seemed to be obstructing his upward trajectory.
After grabbing Thompson’s jersey, McDaniels attempted to toss him to the side.
Players from both teams entered the fracas at that point; Green, among them, dove into the pile, seize Gobert by the neck, and drag him to an area near the Warriors’ bench.Green was eventually separated from Gobert by Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns as the situation began to stabilize and Warriors head coach Steve Kerr appeared to instruct Green to “let go.”Green, Thompson (whose jersey was damaged), McDaniels, and Thompson were all dismissed from the game when everything was resolved. In particular, Green received a flagrant 2 on the spot.It was the first time, per OptaSTATS, that three starters were dismissed from a game prior to either team accumulating a point.Gobert ultimately made both egregious free throws, which accounted for the game’s first two points subsequent to the resolution of matters in a notably disorderly environment at Chase Center.
