LeBron James’ son Bronny made his college debut Sunday. He scored four points in 16 minutes off the bench in a USC 84-79 overtime defeat to Long Beach State. More over four months after Bronny’s cardiac attack in July practice, they lost.

alongside 12 minutes and 58 seconds left in the first half, James entered the game alongside his father at the Galen Center. After retrieving a rebound at 1:25, he missed a three-point shot four seconds later.

With 13:10 left in the second half, the 19-year-old rookie made his second three-pointer to put the Trojans up 56-46.

With 1:05 left in regulation, the 49ers led 72-71 after 10-2 and 8-2 runs. USC led 74-72 after Boogie Ellis’ layup and James’ free throw in the final 42 and 21 seconds, respectively.

With three seconds left in regulation, Long Beach State player Marcus Tsohonis’ jump shot knotted the game and forced overtime.

James played the first 2:42 of overtime without shooting. USC made one of six five-minute overtime attempts. Tsohonis’ free throws gave the Beach the final four points (7-4).

James had one free throw, one of three attempts, two assists, two steals, and a blocked shot.

The final phase of James’ basketball comeback was his first full-contact session at USC on Thursday.

He had heart arrest at a Galen Center practice on July 24. He was transferred to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center for intensive care. He left the hospital after three days.

The James family revealed in August that “the probable cause of Mr. James’ sudden cardiac arrest has been identified” after extensive initial and follow-up exams. It is a curable congenital heart abnormality with significant biological and anatomical features. We are confident Bronny will recuperate and return to basketball soon.

James’ family said on November 30 that doctors have cleared his “complete return to basketball.”

USC describes James, 210 pounds and 6-foot-4 inches, as a combination guard with “elite basketball instincts and toughness, as well as the ability to score from anywhere on the court.” Senior at Sierra Canyon High in Chatsworth, he averaged 13.8 points, 5.5 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.8 steals. ESPN.com ranked him 19th overall in 2023 recruitment.

James had four assists and five points on 5-for-8 three-point shooting in the McDonald’s All-American game.

James wants to play in the NBA long enough to watch his son do likewise.
