Man Utd was without service when two first team stars were absent from training before the important match with Bayern Munich in the Champions League

Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford of Manchester United skipped training in advance of their pivotal Champions League match.

The Red Devils’ final opportunity to play in Europe this season is on Tuesday night against Bayern Munich.

Rashford entered the game in the 79th minute after replacing Martial at the beginning of Saturday’s 3-0 loss to Bournemouth.

But as football writer Simon Peach noted, the two forwards missed Monday’s Carrington training session owing to illness.

If the Red Devils are to have any hope of making it to the knockout stages, they have to be fully prepared and ready to go when they take on Bayern Munich.

Erik ten Hag is optimistic that his team can make up for their earlier-season 4-3 loss to Bayern.

He declared: “We played really well at several points in the game.

“That game went end-to-end for a considerable amount of time, but we also made several mistakes that were completely preventable.

“You have to give it your all while playing Bayern Munich because they have a very strong team and individual players.

“But as I say, Chelsea also amazing players, we dominate them and I think we can do it against Bayern as well.”

Last week, Man United defeated Chelsea owing to two goals from Scott McTominay.

Although Rashford was the team’s top scorer the previous season, he has generally struggled with form this time around.
