Unbeaten, Arsenal and PSV advance together in the Champions League, surprising Reiss Nelson

After the previous 5 matches, Arsenal was sure to advance to the 1/8 round of the Champions League at the top of the group, 4 points ahead of second-placed team PSV. Meanwhile, the remaining ticket is the competition between PSV and Lens, but the Dutch team holds the advantage as they only need a draw to continue to the knockout round.

Therefore, welcoming Arsenal at home, PSV still launches the strongest squad with the goal of winning. In contrast, coach Mikel Arteta only launched the reserve squad with 8 changes compared to the previous round to nourish the pillars in the Champions League and Premier League fronts.

The difference in force helped the home team PSV quickly control the game and create many attacks towards the “Gunners” goal in the first half hour of the first half.

In the 6th minute, goalkeeper Ramsdale had to fight hard to save Arsenal during PSV’s quick attack on the right wing. Unfortunately, PSV striker Ricardo Pepi did not successfully take advantage of the subsequent rebound despite being in a very favorable position.

In the 19th minute, it was Vertessen’s turn to head the ball extremely dangerously, but this time it was the post that helped the “Gunners” escape the goal. In the 22nd minute, striker Johan Bakayoko decisively shot from outside the penalty area but the ball narrowly missed Arsenal’s post.

Attacking a lot but not scoring a goal made the home team PSV pay the price. In the 42nd minute, in a quick counter-attack, Eddie Nketiah escaped to receive the ball after a pass from Reiss Nelson and then coolly defeated goalkeeper Benitez to open the score for Arsenal. 1-0 is also the score of the first half.

Entering the second half, the scenario of the first half was repeated when PSV continued to put great pressure on Ramsdale’s goal.

In the 51st minute, Saliba made a mistake in judging the situation and Ricardo Pepi immediately took the opportunity with a pass that was just right for Vertessen to curl in to equalize for PSV.

The early equalizer helped home team PSV continuously create more chaos in front of the away team’s goal, but goalkeeper Ramsdale in turn neutralized the home team’s attacks.

In the 81st minute, from a free kick on the left wing, Kiwior jumped high and headed the ball into PSV’s net, but the referee and VAR determined that Gabriel was offside during the attack. At the end of the match, Arsenal fans had a heart attack when Gabriel missed the ball and fortunately for the Brazilian player, Guus Til finished the shot out in the face-off.

In the end, both teams tied 1-1 after more than 90 minutes of play and this result was enough for both teams to continue to the 1/8 round. In the match at the same time of the group, home team Lens, despite defeating Sevilla with a score of 2-1, only finished third, 1 point behind PSV.
