April 14, 2023 ‘Squid Game’ will be remade in the US, will David Fincher take on the role of director?
For most of us, April 14, 2023 is just another ordinary Friday. But for a community of like-minded heavy metal fans, it was a special day. Sacred, even.
Because that’s the day – the 12th in history and the first in nearly seven years – American heavy metal giants Metallica release their brand new studio album, titled 72 Seasons.
Metallica’s “72 Seasons” album
72 Seasons is a typical Metallica album – fast and furious with great artistry – and the lyrics touch on pain and alienation. However, there are some rays of hope.
There are many great bands, but there is only one Metallica
Do you know the name Metallica? Have you heard some of their songs? If you’re of a certain age, you might even like a few of them.
But if you’re a true, passionate Metallica fan, then this isn’t just a band, it’s an important part of your life.
“Metallica always makes me feel safe. As an introvert, I always like to plug in my headphones and just listen to something that makes me feel at peace.
No matter how heavy their music is, it always makes me feel good. Sometimes it can make you feel powerful, or it can help you relax. I know not everyone understands that” – Mary Varvaris, a longtime Metallica fan, said about the band’s brand of heavy metal.
Metallica band members
No other band has inspired a cult following on this scale.
From Hobart (Australia) to Helsinki (Finland), metal fans proudly wear band shirts, singing their songs everywhere.
From all of this, it can be seen that 72 Seasons will almost certainly be the number 1 album worldwide next week.
Varvaris can’t remember the first time she heard Metallica, although her father told her she once fell asleep listening to their 1991 self-titled album in her Robinvale living room when she was a child.
Varvaris first knew his love for Metallica was unique when he was just 5 years old.
“I was in elementary school and the teacher asked all of us, ‘What’s your favorite song?
“A lot of kids will come up with some rhyme, a Wiggles song, Britney Spears, whatever it is but I say ‘Master of Puppets.’
The teacher didn’t know what it was. When my dad came to pick me up from school, she said, ‘All the kids were asked what their favorite song was, and Mary said ‘Master Of Puppets.’ What is that?’ My dad said, ‘That was the terrible era of Metallica.’ Yeah, I always loved them” – Varvaris recalled.
Varvaris may not have found any kindred spirits in that elementary school classroom decades ago, but her lifelong love of Metallica has shown that there are plenty of people like her around.
“Soundwave 2013 was the best day ever. Everyone there loved Metallica and was excited to be there.
I feel like I’m part of the most loving and understanding community I can imagine,” Varvaris shared.
And Craig Selak, a follower of Metallica, said about the band’s large fan base: “It’s like a gang, the biggest gang in the world.”
Selak – who plays in Melbourne rock band LOSER and spent his teenage years in a Metallica tribute band – first heard the band as a child through older cousins.
It’s easy to understand the fervor many fans have for Metallica.
A 2015 study found that listening to heavy metal music reduced levels of hostility, irritability, and stress.
