Metallica enthusiasts are in for a treat as the Louth tribute band, Metallitia, is set to rock McHugh’s Barrel Venue on Saturday, January 6th, with support from local group Shock Sorrow.
After a scorching performance by Thin Lizzy specialists, Bad Reputation, excitement is building for Metallitia’s much-anticipated hometown gig. Known for their lively and raucous shows, Metallitia is a fixture of the Drogheda festive season.
When the familiar strains of Ennio Morricone’s “The Ecstasy of Gold” fill the air, signaling the start of the performance, the audience can expect a night of magic and mayhem. Metallitia’s set spans over two hours, featuring a mix of greatest hits and classic album tracks, including iconic songs like ‘For Whom the Bell Tolls,’ ‘Fade to Black,’ ‘Battery,’ ‘Master of Puppets,’ ‘One,’ ‘Creeping Death,’ ‘Enter Sandman,’ ‘Am I Evil,’ ‘Blackened,’ and concluding with ‘Seek & Destroy.’ The poster aptly describes them as the “Master of Tributes.”
Having made a mark on the national scene, Metallitia gained recognition after winning RTE’s Reality Rock Show, Karl Spain Wants To Rock, in 2010. This victory earned them a headline slot at Europe’s top tribute festival, Glastonbudget. They also became the first non-Thin Lizzy tribute act to perform at the Vibe for Philo commemorative event in Dublin. Additionally, Metallitia served as the backing band for ex-Iron Maiden frontman Paul Di’Anno during his Irish tours.
The lineup includes “Flash” on vocals and guitar, Richie McScrumpy on lead guitar, Paddy Snivel on bass guitar, and Jimmy Brennan on drums.
Doors open at 8 pm, and the highly regarded local duo, Shock Sorrow, featuring Keith and Steph Caffrey, will kick off the evening. Advance tickets are selling fast on Ticketstop, making it clear that this is a gig not to be missed.
