Aaron Ramsdale is not one to shirk away from the camera when it’s pointed at him, and this week, the Arsenal goalkeeper displayed a whiteout adidas Predator Prototype, which features the return of the iconic fold-over tongue…That paid off from a Boot Spotting perspective.

Since its brief hiatus followed by a swift resurgence, there has been considerable demand for the contemporary Predator to incorporate the renowned tongue, which comprised a substantial portion of the silo from its inception until approximately 2009. The 2007 Powerswerve was among the final Predators to feature the elongated tongue, but it now appears likely to return, as adidas grants fans’ wishes regarding the next-generation Predator, which is expected to be released by the end of the year. Aaron Ramsdale has provided us with a first look at it.

Recent training saw Ramsdale opt for a whiteout variant of the boot, and the return of the tongue could not have been missed. Although the boots resemble a more traditional Predator from 2000-2007 iteration due to the return of rubber padding in place of spikes and the tongue design, it is evident that they belong to a different generation. This is particularly evident in the form of insignia and the soleplate.

It is true that a considerable number of individuals dislike a tongue, which is absolutely acceptable; in fact, tongue construction is somewhat extraneous in contemporary boot design. Moreover, adidas and Ramsdale appear to appeal to this demographic, as Ramsdale also possessed a pair of the laceless iterations of the new Predator, which featured a whiteout aesthetic. A silver accent hue is utilized in lieu of the tongue and encircles the collar.

Adidas typically releases new iterations of their most renowned silo in late December or early January, so this is an early glimpse at the new boot, and it has us checking our bank accounts already…
