The Gunners regained the lead over Manchester City in the Premier League standings after a dismal week.
An edgy 2-0 victory at Wolves, secured by Leandro Trossard just prior to halftime and Martin Odegaard in injury time, was sufficient to propel Arsenal back to the summit of the Premier League.
The squad led by Mikel Arteta entered the match having endured a harrowing week in which they lost title contention to Manchester City after falling to Aston Villa, and then were eliminated from the Champions League by Bayern Munich.
They were therefore cognizant of the fact that they needed to elicit a response at Molineux, and they did so precisely because of Trossard’s extraordinary cut effort that entered the upper corner and Odegaard’s angled finish in stoppage time.
David Raya (8/10):
In the first half, made an outstanding save to deflect Joao Gomes’s strike onto the post. Performed admirably in all circumstances when they were called upon.
Ben White (7/10):
A few times during the first half, he found himself in advantageous positions, but his final pass fell short. Developed a strong rapport with Saka and Odegaard and stepped up his play significantly after halftime.
William Saliba (7/10):
One more outstanding display from the youthful central defender. Never appeared overly concerned with the rear.
Gabriel Magalhaes (7/10):
Solid enough, albeit with one subpar clearance that allowed the Wolves to score before halftime.
Jakub Kiwior (6/10):
Confronted with difficulty in the opening half, he was fortunate to escape with a save by Raya from Joao Gomes’s well-executed strike on goal. Enhanced as the match progressed.
Declan Rice (8/10):
Arsenal appeared to be performing better whenever he introduced some vigor into the game. A few more strikes would have improved the outcome in the initial half. As evidenced by his contribution to Odegaard’s goal in the dying twenty minutes, he came into his own and seized the game by the nape of the neck.
Martin Odegaard (7/10):
Despite exerting maximum effort, the current appearance is more than a little subpar. Although not performing with the same vigor, he remains vital to Arsenal’s success. He concluded the contest with a superb finish in the dying moments.
Kai Havertz (6/10):
Within 45 seconds, he came close to scoring but his shot was saved. Although he never appears to be at ease in this deeper midfield position, he contributed to the victory nonetheless.
Bukayo Saka (6/10):
Dealt with a Toti man who tagged him throughout the evening, and as usual, was the target of several powerful blows. Occasionally, when he managed to gain some personal space, he appeared menacing.
Gabriel Jesus (6/10):
Less than his finest. Despite appearing to lack conviction in front of the net, he was instrumental in setting up Trossard’s late-first-half strike.
Leandro Trossard (7/10):
After missing an excellent opportunity in the first half, he equalized the score with a goal just prior to halftime.
