Korean midfielder Kim Min-Jae will officially join the Red Devils on July 1, when MU activates the contract release clause worth 42 million pounds.
MU has been in contact with the transfer of Napoli’s midfielder for the past few months, in the context that coach Ten Hag wants to increase the steel under the defense.
The Red Devils also face competition from PSG and Newcastle. However, Kim Min-Jae himself prioritizes joining the Old Trafford team.
Kim Min-Jae had an excellent football season with Napoli
Napoli also tried to prevent the deal by asking him to sign a new contract to eliminate the current contract breaking fee (about 42 million pounds).
However, Italian media confirmed that MU won the race to sign Kim Min-Jae.
Specifically, daily newspaper Il Mattino said that the Korean player will officially join the Red Devils on July 1. Kim Min-Jae becomes MU’s first rookie in the 2023 summer transfer window.
It is known that the 26-year-old midfielder has agreed to a salary of 9 million pounds/year, equivalent to 175,000 pounds/week at Old Trafford.
Kim will upgrade MU’s central defender position
Ten Hag sees this as an upgrade in the central defender position, because Kim Min-Jae is an agile player, plays strongly and plays well with his feet.
Last season, Kim played 45 matches for Napoli, making a major contribution to helping the club win the Serie A championship. His impressive performance helped him win the title of Best Defender in Serie A 2022/23.
Kim Min-Jae’s appearance paves the way for captain Harry Maguire to leave Old Trafford. The 30-year-old midfielder is receiving interest from Tottenham, West Ham and Newcastle.
