Atletico Madrid has made a quite attractive proposal to MU. Accordingly, they want to exchange Joao Felix for Mason Greenwood in the next summer transfer window
Greenwood spent the 2023/24 season on loan at Getafe. He is expected to leave MU this summer, and is receiving attention from clubs across Europe. Dortmund, Juventus and Napoli all showed interest, but it was Atletico who made the first move.
According to Spanish news outlet TDF, the Colchoneros are planning to use Joao Felix as part of a swap deal to bring Greenwood to the Metropolitano Stadium. The striker left Atletico over the past 18 months and is expected to be sold this summer. He scored 10 goals for Barcelona last season and his agent Jorge Mendes is trying to get him loaned for another season instead of returning to Atletico.
Mendes is said to have contacted Man United last summer about the possibility of signing Joao Felix. However, the Portuguese international was eventually loaned to Barcelona.
Atletico’s sporting director Andrea Berta is negotiating to sign Greenwood, and Joao Felix is identified as the “scapegoat”. Two other strikers, Alvaro Morata and Angel Correa, are also on the transfer list in coach Diego Simeone’s overhaul.
Joao Felix can play anywhere up front and showed promise in his short time with Chelsea. However, he basically still has not met the huge transfer price that Atletico paid to recruit from Benfica in 2021.
With Anthony Martial leaving this summer, MU is looking for a new striker to back up Rasmus Hojlund. And Joao Felix could be an option worth considering.
