Arsenal capture David Raya permanently for £27 million, following his successful loan stay at the Emirates last season

Arsenal have triggered their option to buy David Raya from Brentford on a four-year contract worth £27 million.

The Spanish goalkeeper, who was on loan last season, appeared 41 times for the Gunners in all competitions and preserved 20 clean sheets.

After a good season, he received the Premier League golden glove trophy for 16 shutouts. During a Champions League last-16 match against Porto, he saved two penalties and helped his team go to the quarter-finals for the first time in 14 years.

In September, the 28-year-old overtook Aaron Ramsdale’s top rank and has since maintained it. He is presently representing Spain at the Euros.

Raya said of his permanent move: ‘After a year on loan as a Gunner, I can finally claim that I’m an Arsenal player for the next few years.
