Following the Netherlands’ Euro 2024 defeat to England, Dutch forward Joshua Zirkzee has landed a major transfer to Manchester United.
Zirkzee was spotted arriving in Manchester, likely to undergo a medical on Tuesday. A five-year contract is on the table after he passes the physical. The transfer fee is reported to be around £34 million.
The towering 6’4″ attacker made his Euros debut in the quarter-finals. He enjoyed a successful season with Bologna, scoring 11 goals and helping them reach the Champions League. Zirkzee will now be mentored by Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who has returned as part of Erik ten Hag’s coaching staff.
The former United striker is back at the club where he scored over 150 goals between 2001 and 2006. He will join ten Hag’s coaching staff alongside Rene Hake, replacing Mitchell van der Gaag and Benni McCarthy.
Overall, this move signifies Manchester United’s ambition under ten Hag. Zirkzee brings youthful talent, and van Nistelrooy’s experience aims to push the team towards further success.
