Alejandro Garnacho caused a stir among fans during his holiday when he was seen sporting an unusual shirt while training with his teammate Facundo Pellistri

Manchester United star Alejandro Garnacho risks upsetting his hero Cristiano Ronaldo after being caught wearing a rival team’s football shirt while on vacation.

Garnacho, 20, is taking a well-deserved break from the rest of the United group, which is presently on a preseason tour of the United States.

The attacker has yet to meet with the squad after helping Argentina win the Copa America earlier this summer.

He appeared once in the competition as Lionel Scaloni’s team won their third major international event in recent years, following victories in the 2021 Copa America in Brazil and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Garnacho is now on holiday with United teammate Facundo Pellistri and is not anticipated to rejoin the Red Devils until they return to the UK from their tour of the United States.

And he had people buzzing on Monday when he posted a photo of himself after a training session with the Uruguayan.

Garnacho came to Instagram to upload an image of himself wearing the uniform of Saudi Pro League team Al Ittihad, along with the caption: “Work done!”

United fans noticed his decision to wear the Al Ittihad shirt rather than his beloved Ronaldo’s Al Nassr.

One supporter wrote on X, “His idol plays for Al Nassr, so why is he wearing Al Ittihad’s jersey?”

“Why not wear Al Nassr’s jersey to show support for his idol????” said another.

A rival fan joked, “Where he’s going to end up in three years.”

Garnacho has already expressed his respect for Al Nassr icon Ronaldo, having briefly played with the Portuguese legend at Old Trafford.

Garnacho posted on Instagram after playing alongside Ronaldo against Sheriff Tiraspol in 2022: “I don’t know if it’s real or if I’m dreaming.”

United will face Real Betis on Thursday before playing Liverpool on Sunday in their final match of their US tour.

Garnacho will meet with the squad ahead of their Community Shield match against rivals Manchester City on August 4, followed by their Premier League opener against Fulham on August 16.
