Paris Saint-Germain has reportedly ‘offered’ Arsenal £80 million for centre-back William Saliba, describing the offer as ‘impossible to reject’.
Since joining Arsenal in 2019, Saliba has risen to become a key player. Though it took him until 2022 to make his Arsenal debut, he has done so frequently over the last three seasons.
Aside from a game in which he was sent off and subsequently suspended, the Frenchman has not missed a single minute of Premier League or Champions League action this season.
According to Fichajes, PSG has ‘offered’ €95 million (£80/$103.5 million) for Saliba’s services, putting his status at the club at risk.
It is claimed that his performances have piqued the interest of not only the French giants, but also other major European clubs.
According to the article, Arsenal plans to keep Saliba for a long period despite the ‘hard to refuse’ offer.
PSG cooking as Arsenal faces anxiety
PSG’s desire to strengthen their defense is evident, as another report claims they want to recruit Barcelona’s Jules Kounde.
They have declared that they are willing to pay €100 million (£84 million/$109 million) for his services, so it would not be surprising if a comparable bid for Saliba was launched.
If Arsenal lose the centre-back, it will come at a bad moment for them.
Indeed, it has been announced that sporting director Edu, who also joined in July 2019, is leaving the club, and having two major assets exit at the same time would leave large voids that must be filled at once.
Arsenal Roundup: Edu Could Join Rivals
It is unclear when Edu will quit the club, despite recent reports.
However, TEAMtalk hears that Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is a fan and may attempt to snag the director for his clubs.
Arsenal has been advised to remove Bukayo Saka as captain to allow him to focus on his performance.
In terms of transfers, the Gunners are said to be looking into the signing of West Ham winger Mohammed Kudus, as Leandro Trossard is likely to be the subject of a Saudi Pro League push soon.
Saliba accomplished a lot.
Saliba’s two Ligue 1 awards show that a move to PSG would be a good fit.
He starred during his previous tenure there and has since become one of world football’s most significant defenders, implying he’d have an even greater influence and for a larger squad than the one he last played for in France.
