Report: Arsenal now considering £43m January bid for ‘clinical’ South Ameran-born forward

Arsenal lost more Premier League points against Chelsea, and as the January transfer window approaches, the Gunners will be questioning whether they can bolster their roster once more.

With the support of the Gunners board, Mikel Arteta spent a lot of money in the summer to sign players like Riccardo Calafiori and Mikel Merino.

But once again, they were unable to get a striker, and since Gabriel Jesus hasn’t scored this season, they are being left quite vulnerable.

In fact, Micah Richards has once again stated that Arsenal is now suffering from a striker shortage and has advised them to buy a poacher.

And Arsenal may be on the verge of doing just that, according to CaughtOffside.

Mateo Retegui’s January proposal is being considered by Arsenal.

Mateo Retegui has been named on the list of possible January window alternatives that Arsenal is drafting, according to the CaughtOffside report.

Retegui, 25, has scored a lot of goals for Atalanta this season and is quickly becoming one of Europe’s most prolific attackers.

Despite coming from South America, the attacker, who was born in Argentina, has already scored 11 goals for the Italian team and played for Italy 16 times.

Retegui is reportedly being considered by Arsenal as a “plan B” alternative as they evaluate possible January deals.

Although Kai Havertz has been the Gunners’ main man up top, they have been missing a true number nine in several games, just like they did the previous season.

Retegui is an Italian “clinical” striker.

Since we’ve seen a few strikers from Serie A fail over the years, there must be some prudence when it comes to them.

Players like Gianluca Scamacca have not performed well, and players further back like Massimo Maccarone and Dani Osvaldo have also struggled.

Nevertheless, Retegui has received praise for his finishing and is obviously doing something well.

This season, he leads Serie A in goals scored. An extremely well-timed, clinical, and icy finishing within the area. He rises high above centre-backs to offer Atalanta a lethal aerial threat, but also likes to come wide, taking full backs on and whipping in dangerous crosses,” Sports Gazette recently wrote.

In fact, Retegui might be Arsenal’s guy if they really want a completely different option.
