The Premier League title aspirations of Arsenal have taken a hit due to their recent slump in form.
In order to restart their title drive, the Gunners may try to strengthen their roster during the upcoming January transfer window.
Despite constant speculation over the summer, Arsenal did not add a new striker to their roster.
The question now is if, during the January transfer window, Mikel Arteta will bring summer targets back to N5.
That being said, a forward in the Premier League who has been linked to Arsenal for a while now has been informed that he is becoming “too good” for his current team.
Jason Cundy says Arsenal summer target Matheus Cunha ‘will end up leaving Wolves’
The player in question is Wolverhampton Wanderers striker Matheus Cunha, who has done very well for his club despite their poor form.
Wolves currently sit in the bottom three, but the Brazil international has still managed five goals and two assists from 11 Premier League outings.
Arsenal were interested in signing Cunha towards the end of 2022, before he eventually joined Wolves.
The Gunners were apparently in the picture for Cunha last summer too, along with Manchester United.
Cunha helped Wolves run out 2-0 winners over relegation rivals Southampton last week, grabbing a goal and an assist for Gary O’Neil’s side.
TalkSPORT’s Jason Cundy said: “He set up (Pablo) Sarabia for the first goal, but his second, which turned out to be the winner, what a strike.
“This boy has got so much quality. Ball at his feet, he travels at pace. There ain’t many players that can travel at the same pace with the ball at their feet.
“He will end up leaving Wolves. He’s going to end up being too good for them. He’s a top, top player.”
Matheus Cunha style of play
Cunha is a versatile forward who has been used in a variety of roles at Wolves, as Premier League pundit Adrian Clarke wrote on the official league website earlier this year.
At Wolves, Cunha ‘either plays as a roving centre-forward or as a left-sided No 10 in a 3-4-2-1, and from those areas it is his beautifully-balanced ball carrying which frightens defenders most.’
Sky Sports, meanwhile, described the £63million-rated ace last year as ‘a player with almost every key attribute – pace, power and skill.’
The outlet quotes Gary O’Neil as saying: “At this moment, he is probably best as one of the support strikers rather than the main No. 9 who needs to stretch the line and be that guy who is always a goal threat. Because he wants to do more.”
As far as Arsenal are concerned, Cunha appears to have the same skill sets as Gabriel Jesus, but much more clinical in front of goal.
