The ‘powerful’ £20m winger Newcastle and Arsenal are tracking who could solve Eddie Howe’s headache
Newcastle United continue to be linked with a move for Bournemouth winger Antoine Semenyo after his bright start to the Premier League campaign. It’s no surprise to see the Magpies linked with an in form player out on the right-hand side of their attack.
Eddie Howe’s side are in need of more firepower in that area of the pitch if they want to compete for European football and more in the years to come.
Their two options out on that side of the pitch – Miggy Almiron and Jacob Murphy – have both gone through purple patches when it comes to goal involvements, but there’s a need for more consistency. Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes have also operated in that area of the pitch, but are much stronger out on the left.
In seven appearances so far this season, Semenyo has three goals and one assist. Compared to the two Newcastle players who have just two assists, both created by Murphy.
The Magpies aren’t the only Premier League side to have been linked with a move for Semenyo. Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal have also been credited with a move for the 24-year-old who has found another level this season, according to his Bournemouth team-mate.
“As a team, we knew the quality he has and we saw that last year. He’s got to just keep working hard – being aggressive and being clinical,” Cherries team-mate Lewis Cook told BBC Sport earlier this month..
“He’s got a lot better at running back and helping out the team too. He’s a powerful lad and has all the ability in the world. Hopefully he can continue to show that.”
Transfermarkt values the Bournemouth winger in the region of £20million – having played a part in 10 goals in his last 20 Premier League appearances for Andoni Iraola’s side – though recent reports say the Cherries will ask for a fee closer to the £30million mark.
Newcastle sporting director Paul Mitchell has spoken about the club needing to find value in the transfer market, but would Semenyo be an improvement on what they’ve got and value for money?
