Arsenal surrendered a two-goal lead to Aston Villa at the Emirates, with the Gunners now falling further behind league leaders Liverpool.

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal side looked like it was on its way to a comfortable win at the Emirates Stadium after Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz put the Gunners two goals up after 55 minutes against Aston Villa.

But the visitors didn’t back down, and through Youri Tielemans and Ollie Watkins, scored two quick-fire goals in the space of eight minutes to bring their side level.

While the Gunners huffed and puffed with several guilt-edged chances being missed (surprise, surprise), Arteta’s side was forced to settle for a point that now sees Liverpool’s lead at the summit of the Premier League extend to six points with a game in hand.

Here are three takeaways from Arsenal’s draw with Villa.

Trossard not “just” a super-sub?

Maybe all Leandro needed was a proper chance? Stepping in over the last few games, the Belgian has given the Arsenal attack some juice and after scoring against Tottenham, Trossard backed it up against Villa.

While he didn’t find the net, he provided two assists as he caused the Villa backline all sorts of problems with his crossing into the box a feature.

Trossard looked to be Arsenal’s most lethal threat and with Bukayo Saka out injured, maybe the Belgian has staked a claim to be a starter until his fellow winger returns.
