Liverpool legend claims Arsenal should have signed shock Anfield star in January as he says he would have been ‘gold for them’

Arsenal should have made for a Liverpool star in the January transfer window, according to a former Reds player.

Gunners fans were desperate for an attacking signing but the window came and went without any additions, despite a late bid for Aston Villa’s Ollie Watkins.

And Liverpool legend Didi Hamann has somewhat surprisingly claimed that one of their players would have been a good fit for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Darwin Nunez cần nhiều hơn những màn trình diễn giống như trước Newcastle

That player is Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez, who has divided fans since his club record £85m move from Benfica in 2022.

‘I think the team is well equipped, but the lack of a centre-forward is obviously what I think harms their chances,’ Hamann told Prime Casino.

‘And I think even Darwin Nunez, I think Nunez would be gold for Arsenal. Because I think if you’ve got somebody up top who bullies defenders, who draws defenders in, he always gets the attention of two or three defenders.

‘Obviously, he’s a big unit. He’s quick. The game changes. If you’ve got somebody up top with a physical presence, with pace, it’s a different ballgame.

‘They always find space, Arsenal, but it also makes it easier for the likes of Saka and Martinelli and Odegaard when they get into these pockets because quick players stretch teams. They simply haven’t got it.

Newcastle 1-2 Liverpool: Darwin Nunez comes off the bench to score

‘I think even a Nunez would be a brilliant addition to the squad, but it’s too late for that now and they have to make do with what they have.’

Nunez had a night to forget as Liverpool dropped more points in the title race on Wednesday night.

Arne Slot’s men drew 2-2 at Aston Villa with Nunez missing a golden chance to score a third in the second half.

Dietmar Hamann says Nunez is the type of player that this Arsenal team currently needs
