Who won and lost between Manchester United and Arsenal? Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli get the Gunners going

After their preseason game against Arsenal, Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro are out for Manchester United. They came to the United States almost fully fit.

Manchester United quickly took the lead in the first half of their game against Arsenal. Hojlund’s skill in getting the ball under Karl Hein’s leg put United ahead in the 12th minute. But he soon had to leave the game because of an injury to his leg that was not made public. Then, after 13 minutes, Gabriel Jesus scored the equalizer for Arsenal.

The game was pretty even after that until Gabriel Martinelli got the game-winning goal in the 80th minute. Following their win over United, Arsenal will play their last practice game in the United States on July 31 in Philadelphia against Arne Slot’s Liverpool. Two more games, against Bayer Leverkusen and Lyon, will be played at the Emirates.

WHO WON

Jurrien Wood

Jurrien Timber missed most of the 2023–24 season because of an illness, so going into preseason, no one knew what kind of player he would be. That’s why Mikel Arteta did what he could to keep the 23-year-old’s fitness level where the club wants it to be, especially since Arsenal is still trying to catch Man City and win the title.

A group celebration image.

The defender is getting more and more confident as the first two training games go on. Timber played 63 minutes against Bournemouth and did a good job of getting his feet under him and doing his job. Timber showed more confidence in his second start, this time against Manchester United, but he was taken out of the game two minutes faster than the first time he played.

The Case for Mikel Arteta

Because Manchester United had so many chances in the first few minutes of the game, it could have been decided by a large score if things kept going the way they were. But Arsenal’s defense stood strong and kept the damage to a minimum.

Gabriel Jesus scored the equalizer in the 26th minute, and Gabriel Martinelli, who came on as a replacement, put Arsenal ahead in the 81st minute. This made the defense less stressed.

LOSERS: The medical team at Manchester United

In some way, the Red Devil needs to have better luck. Not long after Hojlund scored a great goal just under Hein’s leg, he was given another chance to score and make it 2-0 very early in the game.

However, the Dane got hurt right away and had to leave the field while sitting down. He then walked to the locker room on his own speed. Next, Rhys Bennett came on to replace Leny Yoro in the 30th minute. Yoro had left the game because of an injury that wasn’t made public.

United is trying to get back on track after a bad season, so seeing the new No. 9 and a young player get hurt in the same practice game must be very upsetting.
